As a parent, have you ever wanted to know more about the Arizona State Board of Education? Check out this quick snapshot from Love Your School!

The mission of the ASBE is to develop successful citizens through robust public education.

According to the ASBE website, The State Board of Education is created by the Arizona Constitution and charged with the responsibility of regulating the conduct of the public school system in Arizona. The Board is composed of the following eleven members: the superintendent of public instruction, the president of a state university or state college, four lay members, a president or chancellor of a community college district, a person who is an owner or administrator of a charter school, a superintendent of a high school district, a classroom teacher and a county school superintendent. Each member, other than the superintendent of public instruction, is appointed by the governor with the consent of the senate. Members are appointed to a term of four years.

In addition to its general regulatory responsibilities, Arizona law charges the Board with numerous other duties. The primary powers and duties of the Board are articulated in A.R.S. § 15-203.

The ASBE holds public meetings and their complete calendar can be found on their
website. You can also find helpful information on A-F letter grades, K-12 Standards,
